Why perform a control solution test?
1. To ensure that your meter and test strip are working properly together.
2. To allow you to practice testing without using your own blood.
When should the control solution test be performed?
1. When you first get your OKmeter Core meter. Before using this system to test your blood, you can practice the procedure by using control solution. When you can do three tests in a row that are within the expected range, you are ready to test your blood.
2. Once a week (to make sure that you continue to get accurate results)
3. When you begin using a new vial of test strips.
4. Whenever you suspect that the meter or test strips are not working properly.
5. When your blood glucose test results are not consistent with how you feel, or when you think your results are not accurate.
6. When test strips are exposed to extreme environmental conditions.
7. If you drop the meter.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How can I download my results?
There is a USB port on the device which can connect the meter to a laptop or computer via a USB cable. This will then allow you to download the results.
How do I change from mg/dL to mmol/l or vice versa?
Turn the machine on by pressing the 'S' button on the side of the meter. The date setting will flash to begin with but to move on, press the S again until you see either mg/dL or mmol/l flashing at the bottom. To switch the unit of measure, hold down the one of the arrow buttons until it beeps and the other unit of measure then starts flashing. Then keep pressing the 'S' button until the device displays 'OFF'.
Why are my readings inconsistent?
This may be because you are comparing results from different times of the days. When you are monitoring your glucose levels, you essentially need to be comparing 'apples with apples'. This means you should take a reading each day at the same time, for example, just after you've woken up before you have had any breakfast. This is because your glucose level will vary throughout the day when you eat and drink so by taking a reading in the morning before you have eaten anything, means there isn't these variable affecting how 'true' the reading is.
Another reason could be the blood sample isn't big enough or when you prick your finger you haven't discarded the first drop of blood. Refer back to the user manual to follow the instructions on the best practice when taking a glucose reading.
