The CoolMeds Companion isothermal case has been extensively tested and validated to safely transport temperature-sensitive 2-8°C medication for 18 to 24hrs*.
It's important that 2-8°C medication doesn't go over 8°C or below 2°C, where it is in danger of freezing, as this may affect the efficacy of the medication. There's enough to consider and plan for when travelling without also having to worry about whether your 2-8°C medication will stay safely chilled en route.
The CoolMeds Companion was designed in response to a growing need for a 2-8°C case that could hold bulkier pens and bottles and could go the distance without being overly huge.
The Companion case is similar to the GO case but has a wider Cool Cage that holds more pens, bottles, vials and syringes that won't fit into conventional isothermal cases. The Cool Cage secures and protects the medication in the case and together with the thermal sleeve, ensures the cold is spread evenly around the contents. Please refer to the diagram which gives an indication as to what can fit in the CoolMeds Companion case.
The Companion comes with an integrated digital thermometer which provides peace of mind as you'll be able to monitor the medication's temperature without having to open the case. The internal thermometer batteries (2 x AG13 batteries) are also included and if you need spare batteries, these can be bought at most hardware stores and supermarkets.
The Companion is made from high-quality material with multiple layers of insulation for maximum protection. The thermal sleeve absorbs the initial excess cold and distributes it evenly through to the contents of the Cool Cage and protects the medication from freezing or overcooling.
It comes with 2 specially shaped CoolMeds cold packs which encircle the Cool Cage and offer a long cooling effect and durability during frequent use. These can also be bought separately as it is good to have spares. The cold packs should be replaced every 24 months as the gel denatures over time.
It is highly recommended you do at least one trial run before your journey to make sure you are familiar with using the case, especially because conditioning the cold packs is the most important step. It will also give you time to ask us any questions you might have.
The CoolMeds Companion comes with a detailed product user manual which must be read before using the case. It can be helpful to take it with you to show airport security to prevent the case from being opened unnecessarily.

What a pleasure, from start to finish. The customer service was refreshingly helpful - they know their stuff, which is reassuring. The bag came quickly and we immediately started the trial run. Instructions definitely needed to be read but once we understood them the rest was easy. The bag worked very well and was surprisingly stable for the whole trip. Coldest it went to was 1.6 which was fine. Only tricky part in the beginning was working out how long we would need to get the packs properly conditioned, but it turned out to be as the instructions said it would. 5 stars from us!

I have been very upset about this product not reaching the temperature as per ur instructions. I did a trial run overnight with 2 used pens which I refrigerated in avance. The next day the temp was showing 2 degrees so I assumed all was good. I then followed ur instructions rigidly again & put my 3 pens into the prepared case which was showing 1.2 degrees but I had to go to the airport. My flight was delayed by 5 hours but all day long the temp was showing .9 to 1 & I had to keep opening the bag. The airline insisted on it being stored overhead as we were in an exit seat so when we landed I took it down & it was showing .8 so I kept the bag open until It showed 1.2 by the time we reached a fridge. At no point did it ever go to 2 degrees. I am now worried sick that these 3 pens will not work & I have to move to another abode in 1 week & put 2 of them back into the bag.

Response:
Thank you for the feedback, Helen. The case relies on old-fashioned physics and although the user manual explains how this works, we hope that the info below helps explain things a little better.
To start with, you’ve done everything correctly. But, if the coldest temperature goes below 1.2°C, it means that 1 or 2 variables are having an effect on the conditioning of the cold packs:
1. The temperature that freezers freeze to, has an effect on the conditioning time. When a freezer freezes to very cold temperatures that are below minus 18°C, the cold packs become ‘super charged’ as it were, with cold. The effect of this is that even when the frosty layer on the cold packs has visibly turned to droplets, when the packs are placed into the confines of the case, they radiate cold out from their ‘super charged’ core and this causes the temperature to dip too low. In this situation, all that is needed is to condition the cold packs 5-15 minutes longer.
2. The ambient temperature of the room in which the cold packs are being conditioned has an effect. You’ll find in summer, when the ambient conditions are warmer, the conditioning time may be reduced and in winter when it's colder, it may take a little longer. If the cold packs dip below 1.2°C at their coldest, then simply condition them for 5-10 minutes longer.
This is why the complete trial run is important; to work out how long you will need to set aside on the day of the trip, as the ambient temperature of one’s home and the temperature of one’s freezer, are the 2 variables that affect how long it takes to condition the cold packs, so that the coldest temperature the case goes to, is never lower than 1.2°C.

Just to say how pleased l am with performance of cool bag. Customs wanted to open it but l said only for a few seconds. They called manager, They didn’t read any letters l had. They said they would have to swab it. Temp didn’t change and lasted for hours after arrival at hotel to give me time to sort a fridge out. Mini fridges in rooms were all at 10 degrees so had to ask hotel for alternative. They eventually took syringes and put them in a kitchen fridge. This has worked well but a little stressful.

I was referred to medigenix by my nurse and I can't say enough about how thoughtful and helpful the lady was when I called about the coolmeds cases. She was patient and helped me choose the best case for my needs - not otfen seen these days unfortunately. This companion case worked perfectly - just read the instructions properly or call them. Once I got the hang of it, it was easy to use - very happy customer, thank you.

As a “first-timer” travelling with my injection pens, it was a great comfort to have my Cool-Meds 2-8° case. I hopped to an air BNB and then onto a sailing ship, using the case between each “destination” and putting the injection pens into a Cool-Meds Fridge-Friend, in the fridge, every time I arrived. This was a trial run for how I will travel for three months in South America next year and it was both easy and successful. I feel sorted now – thanks to Cool-Meds.

Have a test, it keeps up to 8 degree around 21, not 24 hours. And it's slightly heavier than I thought, to bring it on plane.
