Why do I need to test my blood glucose levels?
Unmanaged high glucose levels, known as hyperglycemia, lead to serious health conditions which include cardiovascular disease, stroke, eye damage, kidney damage, and circulatory problems, particularly in the feet. The other affect of hyperglycemia is that there is an increased risk of contracting infections such as respiratory tract infections, gastrointestinal infections and yeast infections. These infections can worsen at quicker rate than normal and can take longer to heal.
Monitoring your glucose levels is very important as it provides feedback as to whether your lifestyle changes and/or medication, are having the desired effect.
About the MultiCare IN glucose test strips:
The MultiCare IN glucose test strips must be used with the MultiCare IN Meter only.
Each glucose strip needs a 5µL blood sample for testing.
NB: It is important to observe guidelines when obtaining a blood sample so that the test result is accurate. 99% of user errors are related to not obtaining the blood sample correctly or not placing the blood sample onto the test strip correctly.
NB: Please read here for important info on how to obtain a blood sample correctly.
NB: The blood sample must be brought to the test strip so that the blood can be drawn in by the strip at a HORIZONTAL ANGLE (not from above). Ensure that the strip channel is completely filled with blood but do not overfill the test strip. Blood must be applied in ONE go.
Measuring time is about 5 seconds.
Understanding the results:
The MultiCare IN glucose measurement range is 0.6 – 33.3 mmol/L (10 mg/dl to 600 mg/dl).
Fasting glucose values:
- < 0.6 mmol/L = VERY LOW - repeat the test and if it recurs, contact your doctor
- 0.6 - 3.9 mmol/L = LOW (HYPOGLYCEMIA) - repeat the test and if it recurs, contact your doctor
- 3.9 - 5.6 mmol/L = NORMAL
- 5.6 -6.9 mmol/L = PRE-DIABETES
- >7 mmol/L = HIGH (HYPERGLYCEMIA/DIABETES)
- >13.8 - 33.3 mmol/L = VERY HIGH - contact your doctor
Results below 0.5 mmol/L will show LO and results above 5.6 mmol/L will show as HI. All other results will be a numerical value.
Please note: Testing during or after a meal, physical exercise, or any other events that will impact glucose level, can alter your blood glucose test results.
Always read the instructions first.
Write the date of opening on the test pot, as strips must be discarded after 90 days of opening the pot.
