Why do I need to test my triglyceride levels?
Triglycerides are a type of lipid (fat) that is found in your blood. It is comes from your body converting those extra, unused calories into triglycerides which are stored in your fat cells for when you need energy later. If you have a diet that is high in carbs and/or processed fat, or if you regularly eat more calories than you burn, you will be at risk for developing hypertriglyceridemia (high triglycerides). Dangerously high levels of triglycerides can cause arteries to thicken and harden (arteriosclerosis), which in turn, increases the risk of stroke, heart disease and heart attack. Extremely high triglyceride levels can cause the pancreas to become inflamed (pancreatitis).
Keeping track of your triglyceride level is important for monitoring how effective your medication and/or lifestyle changes are.
About the MultiCare IN Triglyceride Test Strips:
The MultiCare IN triglyceride test strips must be used with the MultiCare IN meter only.
Each triglyceride strip needs a decent blood sample of 8µL for testing.
NB: It is important to observe guidelines when obtaining a blood sample so that the test result is accurate. 99% of user errors are related to not obtaining the blood sample correctly or not placing the blood sample onto the test strip correctly.
NB: Please read here for important info on how to obtain a blood sample correctly.
NB: The blood drop must be applied from ABOVE in ONE go.
Measuring time is about 30 seconds.
The triglyceride range of measurement is 0.5 to 5.6mmol/L (50mg/dl to 500 mg/dl).
Triglyceride values:
- Less than 1.7 mmol/L = NORMAL
- 1.7 - 2.2 mmol/L = BORDERLINE HIGH
- 2.3 - 5.6 mmol/L = HIGH
- >5.6 mmol/L = VERY HIGH - contact your doctor
Results below 0.5 mmol/L will show LO and results above 5.6 mmol/L will show as HI.
Always read the instructions first.
Write the date of opening on the test pot, as strips must be discarded after 90 days of opening the pot.
